This newly converted farm sits on the side of the Buckham Downs. The new owners wanted a naturalistic garden design to settle the house into its setting.

Generous planting borders envelop the house allowing it to feel more settled within the site, whilst at the same time providing year round interest and bringing the boundaries and interest closer to the house. Swathes of ornamental grasses and long meadow areas help to form movement through the garden whilst at the same time echoing the native flora and faun. A Fire Pitt Terrace has been located at the top of the garden making the most of the panoramic views and sunsets.

The only existing flat area of the garden was developed into a Rose Garden with a central water feature and pergola. The pergola was a much needed structure as the garden does not benefit from any natural shade. Trees have been planted to introduce natural shade over time, along with a shelter belt against the South West boundary to provide much needed protection from the prevailing winds. The trees have been planted small to give them the opportunity to adapt to their harsh new growing conditions. (All photos by Lucy McNulty)
